Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and hands-on Inspection Manager to lead our Quality Control department within a high-precision manufacturing environment. This individual will oversee inspection operations across a range of complex components and assemblies, ensuring compliance with stringent aerospace, medical, military, and industrial standards. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong technical knowledge and a passion for quality, process improvement, and team development.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead all inspection-related activities, including the management of CMM programmers, CMM operators, and quality technicians (manual and visual).
- Direct daily operations of the inspection department in support of production schedules, customer requirements, and delivery timelines.
- Oversee the execution of in-process, final, and first article inspections for complex, precision-machined parts and assemblies.
- Manage internal, customer, and supplier corrective actions, ensuring timely implementation, monitoring, and effectiveness verification.
- Provide technical support for quality and production personnel, promoting proper interpretation of specifications and inspection protocols.
- Ensure compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) standards such as AS9100 and ISO 9001; support internal and external audits.
- Collaborate with customers on technical quality issues, SCARs, source inspections, and audits as needed.
- Train, mentor, and cross-train inspection personnel to develop technical capabilities and ensure department flexibility.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across inspection and product verification processes.
- Ensure all team members are aware of and adhere to quality policies, objectives, product conformance requirements, safety, and ethical standards.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a quality, inspection, or quality management role in a precision manufacturing environment.
- Proven leadership experience managing inspection teams in a production setting.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications.
- Hands-on experience with CMMs and manual inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, etc.).
- Strong understanding of AS9100, ISO 9001, and general regulatory compliance in aerospace or medical device industries.
- Demonstrated experience with root cause analysis, corrective/preventive action, and continuous improvement practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with 5-axis machining, EDM, vacuum brazing, and assembly inspection practices.
- Experience supporting audits and customer source inspections.
- CMM programming knowledge (e.g., PC-DMIS) is a strong plus.
- Experience with ERP and Quality Management Systems (QMS) software.
- Formal training in quality methodologies (Six Sigma, ASQ certifications) is a plus.
