POSITION OVERVIEW:

Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in production, logistics, maintenance, and material handling, by performing the following duties personally or through utilities. 

Employee Relations Communication Operations Management Leadership

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES:

  1. Employee Relations 
  • Understand, articulate and administer the Collective Bargaining Agreement and Plant Rules.
  • Cooperate with other supervisors and all functional areas.
  • Cultivate a relationship with the union steward that is both positive and productive.
  • Collaborate with union on all disagreements and/or grievances.
  • Establish Integrity, Trust, Credibility and Respect within and outside of your department.
  • Solicits ideas and input.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Champions Harassment and Diversity Awareness and handles all issues brought forward in a sensitive, confidential manner.

 

  1. Communication 
  • Keeps others appropriately informed - supervisors, employees, other functional areas.
  • Utilizes chain of command when communicating as first approach, may go outside the chain of command when necessary or appropriate.
  • Listens to others attentively/Processes received information – paraphrases or takes other steps to ensure understanding of others’ ideas.
  • Communicates effectively:
    • Verbal/Written communications – communicates ideas in a concise, timely, logical manner; writes clearly and makes sure the message is understandable; positions the message to meet the audience’s needs and interests.
    • Uses appropriate Telephone and E-mail etiquette.
    • Non-verbal communications.
    • Cross-Shift communications.

 

III. Operations Management

  • Demonstrates Safety Awareness - Maintain a safe working environment; including safe work practices, clear aisles and good housekeeping, perform monthly safety inspections, support labor/management safety committee.
  • Directs Staff.
  • Plans, Organizes and Executes Work - through scheduling, workflow, work methods, contingency planning and prioritizing workload.
  • Quality - Promote quality products and work practices.
  • Sense of Urgency – Demonstrates a sense of urgency when appropriate, initiates action.
  • Cost Containment - Assist in cost containment measures, both material and labor.
  • Assess machinery and tool requirements.
  • Efficiencies - Ensure efficient operation of all equipment through coordination with maintenance and tool room supervisors.
  • Regulatory Compliance – Ensures regulatory compliance with all federal, state and local agencies, e.g. EPA, OSHA, FMLA, VESSA, FLSA, HIPAA, etc.
  • Administration:
    • Submits accurate and timely reports which may include daily labor-hour or weekly production reports.
    • Plan and conduct effective meetings.
    • Enter job card information for payroll purposes.
    • Work with planner to maintain proper finished goods inventory levels.
    • Assist in budget process as requested.
